Real World Applications of Artificial Neural Networks(COVID-19 Update)

Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) have used deep learning to solve their complex Machine Learning problems. Here the algorithms are in a structure similar to the human brain. The basic process is that they take in data hence they train themselves to recognize the pattern in the given data and then predict the outputs for a new set of similar data. The two main components of the ANN’s are named after biological system such as Neurons and Synapses.

Natural Language Processing, translation and language generation is one of its popular application as it is very much used in Google Translate. This happens due to the Multilayered Perceptron (MLP) class used in the Text recognition or even the speech recognition. Perceptron’s are the building blocks of ANN. Although there are limitless applications, I would like to state some that are: - ‘Chatbots’, ‘Delivery Driver Route Planning and Optimization’, ’Stock Market Predictions’ and perhaps the most important of all ‘Drug Discovery and Development’. In such times of hardships such as the coronavirus pandemic this ANN technology helps us to fight the pandemic as we can use Chatbots for Screening and Diagnosis , We can use this data to find a miracle machine learning algorithm that finds out how this virus mutates from person to person some companies including Microsoft have released chatbots that help people self-identify their best course of action, given their specific symptoms. They can also use ANN’s to speed up the drug development as it has been previously done to find small molecule inhibitors of the Ebola virus. This accelerated the process and three potential molecules were identified for testing. In case of COVID-19 getting more accurate scores faster is critical to speeding up drug development.
